| The South Island of New Zealand
has rightfully been termed an anglers paradise.
Wanaka and its surrounding district fits this description, and offers
all anglers, whatever their level of competence, a challenge and
the opportunity to fish in some of the most scenic and stunning
surrounds anywhere in the country.
Lakes Wanaka and Hawea support a self-sustaining population of
brown and rainbow trout, and chinook salmon.
The rivers flowing into and out of these lakes are all high class
fisheries, and located within a short distance of Wanaka township.
Further afield, world renowned back country rivers
demand attention.
From lake trolling, spin, through to the very best of fly
fishing are all catered for.
Boat hire and local guides are available, and in some cases, inclusive
of gear and tuition at reasonable rates.
Only a fishing licence is required by law.
Best times of year are October to late April.
Winter fishing on a limited scale can also be enjoyed on a fine
and crisp day.
